CFH-GAG. George Beecher MALTBY, b. Sept. 21, 1838, Rochester, N.Y. (Seth M.5, Isaac 4, Benj.3, Dan.2, Wm.1). m. Nov. 7, 1871, Ida STEVENS, eld. dau. of Will F. and Mary Ann (Scott) Stevens, b. Mar. 1, 1846, Aurora, Indiana, where they were married. He d. Apr. 22, 1915, at Aurora, Ind. Member of Maltby Association. Mrs. Maltby's death occurred some years ago. She was a life-long friend to the compiler through her letters and furnished much material for this book. In one letter she wrote: "Regarding Father Maltby's old letters. Brother Henry was living in the Homestead and after Father's death, Henry's wife sold the most of them to an 'old paper and rag' pedlar."
From his obituary: "He was one of the oldest and most highly respected citizens of Aurora. He was closely identified with the B. and O. car shops of West Aurora. Mr. Maltby was of a kind, gen- ial disposition, was a friend at all times, and leaves an honored memory."
A group photograph, taken about 1911, was sent me by Mrs. Higby. She is seated between her twin brothers, George Beecher and John Whitehouse Maltby--who look as alike as the proverbial "two peas in a pod." Standing behind are Mrs. George Beecher Maltby and Mr. Highby. Another picture is of the twins, seated with George Beecher Maltby's sons, Charles Stevens and Howard Scott Maltby, standing behind.
